Build Your Own Website With Wix – and Why it’s a Great Option

A screenshot of the four32 media website for a blog about why you should make your website on Wix, taught by Jay Ashcroft of four32 Media, a professional videographer, photographer and marketing specialist who works with businesses in barrie, orillia, muskoka and toronto and the rest of North America

So maybe you’ve had someone running a website for you or your business for a few years now, and it’s just kind of sat there. The design is dated, and the content is too.

Every time you ask them to update it, it costs quite a bit – so you have a hard time justifying it. There the site sits, degrading into the internet.

Well, just make your own!

Even if you’re not the creative type, you should really just build your own website using Wix.

Now, I am the creative type – so of course this was a no brainer for me when I was starting four32, but truly – anyone can do this.

What you’ll want to do is go to the Wix site and get started. You can play around with it for free, so there’s no commitment issues to be had.

The set-up is super self-explanatory, and they do a great job of making things easy for their users. Go through your options for templates and get to building. You can go super minimalist or super in depth – it’s entirely up to you.

When you’re building, it’s important to remember the basics of websites. Open a word document and start a site skeleton. Copy and paste the URLs of your favourite websites and keep them as references as you move along.

Create something that makes sense for you and your business. You can have everything on one page, and an anchor will take the visitor to specific sections. You can have separate pages, or a combination of both.

Don’t get too worried about having all of the answers right from the start. This online software is very forgiving, and you don’t need to publish anything live until you’re completely ready.

On your site, some options for pages or page anchors can include Home, About Us, Products and Services, Contact Us, etc.

Use these headings to organize the information on your website and to direct visitors through your information. Make your site act like a story. There’s a beginning, a middle and an end – the end being that they make a purchase or contact you using a form or clicking on your phone number for a call.

Use images and videos throughout the website. You can upload your own images and you can link videos from external sites as well. If you have a YouTube Channel with videos on it, you can use the video links and embed them on a specific page on the website.

Something else that Wix does extremely well is help you with SEO. If you aren’t familiar, SEO means search engine optimization. In the online software, you’ll be following the prompts to make sure your SEO is up to snuff to keep Google happy.

Don’t skip this part – Google is how people find you!

Lastly, you should be adding a blog to your website as well. Having a blog on your site increases the chances of someone searching for answers to specific questions – and having them land on your site because your blog served that purpose.

The more you do this, the more you’ll rank and the better your site will perform. It also helps to show potential customers or clients that you’re an authority in your industry.

Wix makes it super easy to create a website that you can be proud of. In some pretty easy steps, you can go from concept to super professional looking site, and your business will thank you for it. This is why you should build your website with Wix.

Best of all, it’s one simple monthly fee and you have full access to make any changes that you want. Also, if you decide that at some point it’s just too much to manage, you can pass it on to a professional for maintenance and updates.
