Adding Locations to Your Posts – How to do it and Why it’s Important

A photo for a blog called, “Adding Locations to Your Posts – How to do it and Why it’s Important” taught by Jay Ashcroft of four32 Media, a professional videographer, photographer and marketing specialist who works with businesses in Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Huntsville, Muskoka and the rest of North America

When you’re marketing your physical business, a great way to help to push your SEO is to include locations in all of your social media posts – because, yes, social media posts help with your SEO.

You see, Google takes everything that is uploaded onto the internet and indexes it based on repetition and how applicable the information on each post is to user inquiries.

So, say you’re a massage therapist in Toronto – you’ll want to make sure that you add the location to each and every post that you throw up – because you’re a physical business who is dependent on people finding you.

This is, adding locations to your posts – how to do it and why it’s important.

The first platform to consider is Facebook. In these posts, it’s actually the check in button, but it’s a bit of a back door cheat to geotagging your posts.

Historically this button would be used to check into physical businesses – simply as a social metric, but it’s no secret that it can be used for a business to connect it to specific geographical areas.

This button is a small red pin towards the bottom of the upload window where it says “add to your post”.

On Instagram, you can do the same thing. When you go to post, fill out the location accurately.

One posting tip that is kind of hidden is actually on Instagram stories. If you’re in the story window and you swipe up from about half an inch from the bottom of the screen, you’ll be able to add the location to a story as well.

So why does adding the location to your social posts even matter? Well, it works – it gets you results.

This is a long game, and don’t expect it to happen overnight – but if you’re consistent in your location and keywording, you’ll start to see results on Google.

We’ve been doing this for a construction client for a couple of years now, and we’ve gotten some exciting results for them.

If you Google Niagara Contractor, our client is 4th; if you Google Niagara Remodel our client is 3rd; if you Google Niagara-on-the-Lake Contractor our client is 2nd under the ads, and this list goes on and on.

Now, yes – we do have other work that we do with them. We do regular Google Business Profile posts which help with SEO, and we regularly update their website with galleries and blog posts.

However, a large part of this success in their ranking is due to remaining consistent in our geotagging and keywords over the past few years.

Try these methods out on your business! Be prepared for it to take quite a while, but if you start doing it today, you’ll have massive growth sooner than you may think.

As always, if this seems like it’s just going to take up too much of your time, then reach out for a chat – we’re always happy to help.

To Your Success,
